Over the course of a 27-year judicial career, Bob presided as both a trial judge and appellate judge, culminating in his tenure as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia for four years, Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of Yukon and Chief Justice of British Columbia for ten years. Bob served as Vice-Chair of the Canadian Judicial Council from 2013 to 2016. He retired from his judicial career in October 2023. 

In legal practice Bob specialized in municipal and administrative law, while over the course of his judicial career he dealt with all manner of cases, both civil and criminal.  

Bob looks forward to developing his ADR practice both provincially and nationally. He will also continue to promote his major passion—access to justice—both locally, as a board member of Access Pro Bono BC, and internationally.  

Mr. Bauman is currently doing arbitrations and anticipates expanding his practice to include mediations in the near future.
